Thursday, September 4 at Mars Hill - 7:00pm
Saturday, September 6 at Brevard - 1:00pmROME – Shorter women's soccer takes to the field for the first time in 2014 as they travel to North Carolina this weekend for a pair of NCAA Division II contests with Mars Hill and Brevard. Thursday, the Lady Hawks turn their attention to the Lions of Mars Hill before closing out the road trip Saturday afternoon against the Tornados.
In the first season as full members of the NCAA, the Lady Hawks will be looking to better a 6-12 overall record from a year ago; which saw Shorter go 2-8 in the Gulf South Conference. As for the competition, Mars Hill finished 2013 with a 4-11-2 overall mark and a 2-8-1 record in the Southern Atlantic Conference, while Brevard posted a 3-13-1 record with a 0-10-1 SAC mark.
Shorter's lineup will feature just as many new faces as old this year, as 13 of the 26 players will don the blue and white for the first time. Leaving a void for the Lady Hawks is the loss of three seniors from last season; who combined for 19 of Shorter's 22 goals. But, head coach,
Ben Birdsong, is optimistic his team is up for the challenge.
