ROME -- After starting the season, 4-0, the Lady Hawks have dropped both games since beginning conference play on Wednesday. Friday afternoon Shorter women's soccer fell to Valdosta State, 1-0, to give the Blazers their third straight win.
The loss drops the Lady Hawks to 4-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference play, while Valdosta State improves to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the Gulf South Conference.
The Blazers took the lead and ultimately the win in the seventh minute as Maegen Doyle found the back of the net on a long shot from about nearly 30 yards out.
Both teams tallied 5 shots on goals, with Valdosta State out shooting Shorter 12-11.
Alden Powell played the complete game in goal for the Lady Hawks, making 4 saves on the day. While VSU goalkeeper Olivia Mills tallied 5 saves through 90 minutes.
Shorter returns to action Sunday afternoon as they travel to West Georgia for a 1:00pm game.
