Lady Hawks stay perfect in the GSC with 3-1 over the Chargers

ROME -- The Lady Hawks stayed perfect in the Gulf South Conference play with a 3-1 over Alabama Huntsville on Tuesday evening. The win is also Shorter's sixth straight since conference play began on September 9 at West Georgia, and during the span the Lady Hawks have only dropped three sets.

Shorter (8-2, 6-0 GSC) took the lead early, winning the first game 25-16 before dropped the second by a 21-25 final score. Despite having UAH (5-5, 3-3 GSC) keep the game close the Lady Hawks never trailed in the third game, and took the win 25-20, then closed out the match with a 25-18 win in game four to earn the 3-1 decision.

Shorter had four players with double digit kill totals. Jasmine Crook led with a match high 14, followed by Elizabeth Dowd with 12, while both Anna Graham and Erica Baker tallied 11. Lauren Meyer posted a season high 9 in the match.

Cheyenne Frady turned in a career high 47 assists in the match.

Defensively, the Lady Hawks were led by Dowd; who recorded 21 digs in the game. Crook tallied 15, while Cheyenne McLemore chipped in with 14, Dena Pierce added 11, and Frady recorded 10.

Shorter will look to extend its win streak Friday evening as No. 15 West Florida visits the Winthrop-King Centre. Both teams bring undefeated conference records (6-0) into the match, while the Argos also haven't dropped a match all season (12-0).
