ROME --Â Still looking for their first win of the season, the Hawks knew No. 3 Limestone was going to be a tough opponent. But, Shorter rose to the occasion, and despite falling 2-1, the Hawks proved they aren't to be taken lightly.
Defense dominated the first half as neither team had many clear chances to break through, but with 1:47 to play in the period, the Saints did just that as a Vebjoern Olstad's corner kick found the head of Sam Orritt to give Limestone the go ahead.
Trailing 1-0, the Hawks began to see more open chances in the second frame - recorded all five shots during the periond - and found the equalizer in the 70th minute as
Irvin Espinal netted his first goal of the season on a throw in from
Charlie Dennis. Six minutes later, however, the Saints regained the lead for good on a penalty kick from Benjamin Morande.
Shorter will be back in action next Wednesday, September 24, as Clayton State visits Ben Brady Field. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
