ORLANDO, Fla. – The Shorter wrestling team didn't just win the National Collegiate Wrestling Association Southeast Conference tournament – they dominated it.
Going up against some notable NCAA Division I programs, the Division II Hawks cruised to the conference championship on Saturday and gain a full head of steam heading into the season-ending NCWA National Championships that will be held Match 13-15 in Allen, Texas.
The conference showdown ended with six Hawks winning individual titles,
Terrence Smith being named the events Outstanding Heavyweight and head coach
Josh Henson being named the Coach of the Year.
Shorter claimed the crown amassing 219.5 points, well ahead of runner-up and host Central Florida (154.5). Florida Gulf Coast, Florida and South Florida rounded out the top five of the 14-team tourney, which also includes wrestlers from Georgia, Georgia Southern, Alabama and Auburn.
The NCWA offers competition for teams waiting to become full NCAA members and non-NCAA programs. Shorter is finishing off its third and final year of transitioning to the NCAA Division II ranks this year and will become a full member this fall.

Marlen Morgan (285.)
Providing even more points with runner-up finishes for Shorter were
Kannon Madden (157) and
Andrew Ewers (235),
Clint Jones (133) claimed third place at 133 and
Joseph Hinchman finished fourth (197).
