Cold-shooting Lady Hawks fall to West Florida

Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – The trip to the Sunshine State proved to be a cold one for the Shorter women's basketball team Thursday night when the Lady Hawks, who were never able to find their shooting touch, were handed a 66-48 Gulf South Conference defeat by West Florida.

The loss denied the Lady Hawks' quest to give head coach Vic Mitchell his 400th career victory.

Shorter, which entered the game coming off its most impressive offensive display of the year a week ago in a win over West Alabama, finished the game against the Argos connecting on 19 of 63 shots from the floor with the tone being set early when the Lady Hawks managed to make eight baskets in 33 field goal attempts.

The two teams opened the night appearing to be headed towards a close shootout but after the first five minutes, West Florida went on a 12-2 run and at the half held a 31-17 advantage.

The Argos continued to make the most of the Lady Hawks' scoring troubles in the second half, outscoring Shorter 19-3 with less than 15 minutes to play and never looked back.

Kristin Nash was the lone bright spot for the Lady Hawks as she led Shorter with 15 points, while Ieshia Alexander added 11.

Tessah Holt and Toynetta Johnson paced West Florida (15-7, 10-6) with 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Lady Hawks, now 6-17 overall and 4-13 in the GSC, remain the road on Saturday when they visit conference foe Valdosta State.
