Hawks upended as Lions rally for win

Box Score FLORENCE, Ala. - Brandon Pullman had 23 points and Jordan Jacks turned in his 11th double-double outing of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds, but the Shorter Hawks came up short as North Alabama used a second-half surge to claim an 86-83 Gulf South Conference win Saturday.

Shorter, now 8-10 overall and 5-7 in conference play, returns home on Thursday when the Hawks host Christian Brothers at the Winthrop-King Centre at 8 p.m. and remains on their home floor next Saturday when they face Delta State at 4 p.m.

The Hawks broke out to a 45-35 halftime lead against the Lions and made it a 12-point margin early in the second half when Jacks hit a short jumper.

But UNA, who hit 50 percent of its shots after the break, slowly began to cut into Shorter's lead and with less than two minutes to play took the lead for good when Wes Long connected on a three-pointer. Shorter managed to get off a three-point shot by Pullman that would of tied the game, but saw the ball bounce off the rim.

Dedric Ware joined Pullman and Jacks in double figures adding 16 points and Derrick Martin had 11 rebounds.

Calvin Dade led UNA (11-8, 5-6) with 23 points.
