Lady Hawks earn program's first win at Lee

Cleveland, Tenn. -- For the first time in program history the Lady Hawks topped the Flames on the road; winning the Gulf South Conference Match of the Week by a 3-1 final score Tuesday evening.

Shorter jumped out to an early lead, taking the first two games by 25-20, 25-16 final scores, respectively. Lee came back – to avoid the sweep – with a win in game three, 26-28. But the Lady Hawks shut down the Flames 25-18 in the final game to earn the win 3-1.

The win improves Shorter to 14-3 overall on the season, and 12-1 in the Gulf South Conference. While also giving the Lady Hawks a perfect 2-0 record in GSC Match of the Week play this season. Lee moves to 6-12 overall and 4-8 in the GSC.

Jasmine Crook led Shorter, turning in 13 kills on the night; while Anna Graham added 12 kills for the Lady Hawks, and Elizabeth Dowd recorded 11. Dena Pierce dished out a team high 25 assists, to go along with 3 service aces, and Cheyenne Frady chipped in with 24 assists and two aces.

Defensively the Lady Hawks were led by Dowd; who posted 18 digs. Crook added 17 and Cheyenne McLemore turned in 13. Shorter also combined for 9 total blocks on the night. Graham and Erica Baker each recorded 4.

Offensively, Lee was led by Latrice Johnson; who posted a team high 12 kills. While, defensively, Stephanie Hernandez posted a match high 22 digs for the Flames.

Shorter will take a break from league play Friday as they welcome Bryan College to the Winthrop-King Centre for a 7:00pm game.
