Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Shorter men's basketball team nor the freezing temperatures outside were able to cool off a hot-shooting Delta State squad Monday afternoon when the Hawks were handed a 91-81 Gulf South Conference defeat by the Statesmen.
The Hawks (4-7 overall and 1-4 in the GSC) placed four players in double digits, but could not match the Statesmen, who held a slim 37-33 lead at the half but finished the final 20 minutes of the contest knocking down a solid 61 percent of their shots from the floor.
Dedric Ware paced Shorter connecting for 24 points,
Travis Jones added 17, Kurtis Woods came off the bench to chip in 15 and
Jordan Jacks ended the game with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Delta State (11-2, 4-1) was led by Willie Readus, who headed up the second-half surge scoring 29 of his game-high 36 points. Devin Schmidt finished with 8 points for DSU, Jack Magden added 12 and Mike Washington had 11.
The Hawks return home for another conference showdown Thursday night at home at the Winthrop-King Centre when they host Alabama-Huntsville.
