Lee tops the Lady Hawks, 53-49

In typical Shorter vs. Lee fashion, Saturday's women's basketball game went down to the very last seconds with the Lady Flames coming out victorious, 53-49.

Ieshia Alexander led Shorter with 18 points on the night, while Lynette Harris added 12. Shaundrika Mann tallied four points and a season high 15 rebounds.

Lee's Hollie German ended with a game high 26 points.

The Lady Flames led most of the first half, but Shorter stayed close. With 5:55 to play in the frame Harris connected on layup to give the Lady Hawks the lead. Lee answered by going on an 11-0 run to end the half and took a 28-18 lead into the intermission.

In the second half the Lady Flames added to their advantage; leading by 13 with 6:21 to play. Shorter began chipping away and were able to cut the lead to 2 with 0:38 on clock. With 14 seconds to play the Lady Hawks got the ball back after a missed shot from Lee, but the Lady Flames forced a turnover and sealed the win.  

Turnovers proved costly for Shorter during the first half, as the Lady Hawks turned the ball over 17 times to Lee's 6. During the second half, however, Shorter only surrendered 6 turnovers, while the Lady Flames tallied 8.

The Lady Hawks will be back in action Thursday evening from Jackson, Tenn. as they take on Union University for the second time this season. During their first meeting, the Lady Bulldogs topped Shorter, 59-56. Tipoff is set for 7PM eastern.
