ROME--Shorter men's basketball took to the court for the final time in 2013 Friday evening, and came away victorious upsetting the 24th ranked Lions, 90-72.
The Hawks, 4-5 on the season, earned their first conference win and move to 1-2 in conference play.
The fact that North Alabama entered Friday's game ranked 24th in NCAA Division II didn't intimidate the Hawks, as they were able to build a 30 point lead during the first half en route to the win.
Dedric Ware, who came into the game averaging 15.9 points per game, led all scorers with a season high 37 points; scoring 20 during the first half.
In the opening frame, Shorter shot 75% from beyond the arc, while holding the Lions scoreless from three point range. The dominance continued after the break, as North Alabama was only able to convert one three point shot during the game; the Hawks netted 13, with 7 belonging to Ware.
In addition to Ware, Shorter had two players reach double figures;
Jordan Jacks recorded 16 along with 11 rebounds, and Kurtis Woods added 11.
Brock Rowan just missed a second consecutive game with double figures, scoring 9 in the game.
The Hawks will be back in action January 4 as they travel to Memphis to take on Christian Brothers.
