Box Score By Karen Allen

ROME--
In their first game of the season women's basketball defeated the Falcons of Montevallo, 65-62.

The Lady Hawks got on the board first as Lynette Harris and Ieshia Alexander netted layups to give the Shorter the 4-0 advantage. Montevallo's Shay Bonner then connected on back to back shots to take the lead 5-4; a lead they wouldn't give up until 12:37 to play in the second half as Madison Rice delivered a three-pointer that swung the advantage in Shorter's favor, 40-37.

Montevallo fought back, but couldn't pull ahead, despite tying the game on a few occasions.

Alexander led the Lady Hawks with 20 points in the game, while Karisma Boykin chipped in with 11. For Montevallo, three players reached double-digits in points, with Taylor Beverly recording a game high 24.

Shorter's bench made the most of its opportunities as the Lady Hawks reserves posted 16 points in the contest.

From the line, Shorter shot 53%. Montevallo, on the other hand, turned in a 23-32 mark in free throws.

The Lady Hawks will be back in action Monday evening, November 18, as Columbus State visits the Winthrop-King Centre for a 7:30 tip.
