Women's Soccer

Lady Hawks win in overtime, 3-2

Box Score By Karen Allen

ROME—
Shorter women's soccer earned a 3-2, conference win over West Georgia Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-5 on the season, and 1-1 in conference play.

The Lady Hawks took the lead, 1-0, in the 21st minute as Helena Farinha scored her first goal of the game. However, less than a minute later, West Georgia earned the equalizer, on a goal from Mariela Ortega.

With the game tied 1-1 at the intermission, Shorter was eager to record the go ahead in the second half. Kelli Davis did just that at the 55:11 mark on a pass from Brooke Forrest to give the Lady Hawks the 2-1 lead. Again, the Wolves came back, and tied the game 2-2 with ten minutes to play, and ultimately forced overtime.

Neither team went ahead in the first overtime period causing the game to go to the final ten minute period. It wouldn't take long, as Shorter's Farinha scored with just over a minute off the clock to seal the win for the Lady Hawks.

Shorter out shot West Georgia nineteen to seven. Taylor Hays recorded one save for the Lady Hawks over the 101:47 minutes of play, while the Wolves' Mary Laza made four saves.

The Lady Hawks will be back in action this weekend, October 11 and 13, as they travel to West Alabama and West Florida to continue conference play.
