Jon Moseley

Jon Moseley returns for his 12th season in 2017 as head coach of the Shorter University volleyball program.

In his first five years at the helm of the Lady Hawks, Moseley developed a young Shorter program into a perennial national contender. He brought the university its first-ever Southern States Athletic Conference championship in 2007 -- just his second season as head coach -- and has helped the Lady Hawks to a pair of appearances in the NAIA Volleyball National Championship.

On Sept. 17, 2010, Moseley won his 100th career collegiate match as Shorter topped SSAC East Division rival Brenau University 3-0 in Gainesville, Ga.

In 2012, Shorter's volleyball team won the NCCAA South Region title, and took runner-up honors at the national tournament.

2010 also saw the Lady Hawks race out to a 17-1 start -- the best in program history -- with the help of a school record 13-match winning streak. Shorter ended the year with a 26-6 overall record to post the best winning percentage in the eight-year history of the program.

In 2009, Moseley guided the Lady Hawks to a school record 27 victories and an appearance in the SSAC Tournament championship match. In that same season, senior Kasi Runion became the program’s first American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) first team All-Region selection on her way to NAIA All-America honors.

In his first season as head coach in 2006, Moseley led the Lady Hawks to a 22-8 record, which at the time was the best mark in program history. For his efforts, Moseley was named the SSAC Coach of the Year.

In 2007, Moseley’s fifth-seeded Lady Hawks captured the program’s first SSAC Tournament championship and advanced to the NAIA Volleyball National Championship. Moseley has compiled a 116-55 record during his five-year tenure on the Hill and is far and away the winningest coach in Shorter volleyball history.

Before coming to Shorter, Moseley was the head volleyball coach at Guntersville High School in Guntersville, Ala. At Guntersville, he coached his teams to back-to-back Alabama Group AAAA state championships in 2004 and 2005.

Prior to his time in Guntersville, Moseley served as the head volleyball coach at Cherokee County High School in Centre, Ala. There, Moseley’s teams advanced to the Elite Eight six times, including Final Four appearances in 1998 and 2003.

Moseley led Cherokee to state championships in 1999, 2001 and 2002. He was named the Gadsden Times Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2005 and the Marshall County Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2005.

Moseley has won well over 500 matches in his high school and college coaching career.

Moseley graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a minor in Latin American Studies.

During his college academic career, Moseley was involved with the Vanderbilt University club volleyball team. He also worked as a student athletic trainer and was involved with BCM and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Moseley earned his Master of Education degree in Secondary Education from Vanderbilt in 1998.

Moseley and his wife, Ana, have two children, Ada and James.
