Dr. Michael Ross will enter his first year as Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) and his seventh year at Shorter University.
Dr. Ross currently serves as the Department Chair of the Sport Management program at Shorter University in addition to serving as a Board of Commissioners member for the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA). Dr. Ross has recently been named a Senior Writer for the Journal of NCAA Compliance as well. He is a strong advocate for experiential learning which has resulted in his students working numerous events such as the Super Bowl, NCAA Men’s Final Four, ACC Tennis Championships and most recently in a study abroad curriculum being reinstated into the College of Business. In 2022, Dr. Ross was awarded the Vulcan Excellence in Teaching Award which is given to the junior faculty member who has made a distinct difference within both the classroom and campus community.
Dr. Ross earned his Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in History from Piedmont University while playing college basketball there and previously at Georgia College and State University. He earned his Master of Science (M.S.) in Kinesiology with a focus in Sport Management from the University of Georgia. He is a graduate of Troy University with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Sport Management.
Prior to entering higher education, Dr. Ross served as an assistant high school athletic director and worked for the Atlanta Hawks organization. In addition to these roles, he founded a youth sport development company which focuses on skill development and overall functional movement training for athletes ranging from recreation age to the professional level of sport.
