Rachel Magness is entering her eighth season as head coach of the Shorter University competitive cheerleading program. In just five seasons, Magness has solidified Shorter's cheerleading program as one of the best in the entire country, having guided the Cheer Hawks to four national championships.
In 2008-09, Shorter's first season of competitive cheerleading, Magness and Cheer Hawks won the national championship in the All-Girl II Intermediate Division at the NCA National Cheer and Dance Championships in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The squad repeated the feat in 2009-10, bringing home back-to-back national championships with another first place finish in the All-Girl II Intermediate Division at NCA. The Cheer Hawks went on to complete a three-peat in 2010-11 in the All-Girl II Intermediate Division.
Shorter also fields an extremely successful Coed squad, one that added a fourth national championship to the Cheer Hawks' resume last spring, taking first in the NAIA Small Coed division at the NCA National Championships in Daytona Beach. In addition to the national title, the Coed team has turned in a pair of national runner-up performaces (2009, 2011) in the Cheer II Division at the NCA Nationals. The Coed squad placed fourth in 2010.
Magness owns and operates Hot Shots Cheerleading Center, located about one half mile off of the Shorter University campus.
