ROME- The Shorter Hawks fell to Chowan in their doubleheader series on Friday. The Hawks dropped game one 4-1 before falling in game two 8-3. The losses drops the Hawks to 10-23 overall and 4-10 in conference. 

GAME ONE

After a quiet first frame, Chowan plated two runs in the top of the second to grab the early lead. Alex Hollingsworth got Shorter on the board with a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the fourth to swing the momentum in favor of the Hawks. 

Both teams continued to battle as the game progressed, with another pair of silent innings. Chowan, unfortunately, added two more in the seventh to extend their lead. The Hawks continued to fight, but it would not be enough as they fell in a 4-1 defeat.

Anna Sanders: 1-3
Brayleigh Leone: 1-3

GAME TWO

The Hawks fell behind early in the second game of the afternoon, as the visitors drove in a pair of runs to start game two. Chowan continued to pour it in with a three-run homer in the third to make it 5-0 after three innings. Alex Hollingsworth continued her performance from game one with another home run to give Shorter some momentum and cut into the Chowan lead. 

The visitors chipped in two more runs in the sixth to make it 8-1. Rylee Gattis and Anna Sanders put a dent in the Chowan lead late with a pair of RBI to cut into the lead, but it would not be enough as Shorter fell in an 8-3 final.

UP NEXT

The Hawks will have a quick turnaround as they host Barton for a series tomorrow, with game one beginning at noon.
