ROME- The Shorter Women's Lacrosse team fell to Catawba on the road in a 19-9 loss Saturday afternoon. 

The Hawks struck first in the first 30 seconds, with Kaitlyn Dwyer-Peppers scoring to take the 1-0 lead. The Indians responded with two goals of their own before Cassidy Jones and Maggie Wallace connected to make the score 3-2. Catawba added one more goal before the first frame ended, making it 4-2 after one. 

Shorter got off to a good start in the second quarter as Anderlyn Buford found the back of the net. However, Catawba found momentum and scored eight unanswered goals to make it 12-3 going into the half.

The Indians recorded the first goal of the third quarter, but was matched as Buford scored her second goal of the day. Both sides continued to fight as the period pushed forward, with the Hawks outscoring the Indians 3-2 as they entered the final frame behind 15-6. Catawba would start the fourth with a goal, and Shorter responded with three back-to-back scores. Unfortunately, the Catawba scoring was too much for the Lady Hawks as they fell in a 19-9 final.

Shorter will return home to continue conference play against Converse next Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
