Huntsville, Ala. --Â The Lady Hawks closed out the 2018 season with a 25-5 setback to Alabama Huntsville.
With the loss, Shorter finishes the year 0-10 and 0-8 in conference play; while the Chargers head into the GSC tournament with a 12-3 overall mark and 6-1 record in conference play.
UAH jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with back to back goals in the opening minutes of the game. Only to have the Lady Hawks come back to cut the lead to one on
McKinley Puckett's first score of the game with 27:14 to play in the first half. From there, the Chargers put the game out of reach, netting the next seven goals to extend their lead to 9-1. Shorter broke up the run with Puckett's second goal of the game, for the 9-2 score with 16:33 remaining in the first.
Allie Perry added a goal for Shorter in the half to make it a 13-3 game with 7:14 to play. Before UAH tacked on two more for the 15-3 advantage, heading into halftime.
After the break, the Chargers added to their lead with three straight goals. Before
Anna Kate Dulaney found the back of the net for Shorter for the 18-4 score. The Lady Hawks final goal of the game came from
Aubrey Geiger with 6:46 to play bringing the score to 23-5. UAH added two final goals during the final four minutes to earn the 25-5 win.
In total, the Chargers outshot the Lady Hawks 41-8; while holding a 35-7 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams were 100% on clear attempts and UAH held a slim 19-13 advantage in draw controls.
Geiger and Puckett each chipped in with two points; Geiger with a goal and an assist, while Puckett tallied two goals. Perry led the way with six draw controls, while Dulaney led the effort on the ground with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Peyton Reid played the complete game in goal, making 10 saves.
