ROME -- The Lady Hawks earned their first Gulf South Conference win of the season Thursday afternoon earning a 5-4 win over West Georgia at home.
With the win, Shorter evens their record to 3-3 overall and moves to 1-2 in the GSC; while the Wolves slip to 1-9 on the season and 0-8 in conference play.
The Lady Hawks took an early 2-1 lead after doubles, winning at number one and two. At number two,
Anastasia Jovicic and
Martina Radinovic needed the tiebreaker after tying the match 8-8, before earning the win 9-8. While,
Aleksandra Durzynski and
Melinda Chrun tallied an 8-4 victory.
In singles, Shorter earned wins at one, two and three to secure the match. Durzynski moved to 6-0 on the season with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 win. While, Chrun posted a 5-0 win after UWG retired, and Jovicic turned in a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Saturday, March 17 against West Alabama at home.
