Lady Hawks drop season finale to UAH

Young Harris, Ga. -- The Lady Hawks closed out the 2017 season with a setback in the semifinals of the GSC Tournament, falling to Alabama Huntsville 20-14.

The teams kept things close during  much the first half, matching each other point for point over the first twenty minutes. Morgan LeBlanc got the scoring going, netting her first goal of the game before a full minute had ticked off the clock. The Chargers followed with two goals of their own, before LeBlanc tied things up at 2-2 with 25:12 remaining, and after a goal from Natalie Pachinger made it 3-2 in favor of UAH, LeBlanc tallied her third of the half.

The Chargers (14-4, 7-1 GSC) then took a 3-0 run to extend their lead to 6-3, only to have the Lady Hawks (10-6, 4-4 GSC) tally a 3-0 run of their own to tie the game – getting goals from Crystal Marshall, Hannah Pridemore and Morgan Perrone. From there, however, UAH added five straight, over the next six minutes to make it an 11-6 game with 4:46 to play in the half.

With just under two minutes to play, Shelby Beverly netted her first goal of the game for the 11-7 score. The Chargers then tacked on two in the final minute and a half to take a 13-7 advantage into the final half.

Both teams added seven goals in the second half, for the 20-14 final score.

Beverly, LeBlanc and Pridemore each finished with three goals; while Marshall finished with two goals and five assists for five points in the game.

On defense, Pridemore and Maggie LaVangie each caused three turnovers in the game, while Alex Abbey contributed two. Catherine Mitchner played the complete game in goal, making 11 saves.
