Lady Hawks hold off Lee in home finale

ROME -- The Lady Hawks made the most of their final home game of the year, topping Lee 17-2.

The win improves Shorter to 10-4 overall and 4-3 in the Gulf South Conference; while the Flames close out their inaugural season of lacrosse 0-14 and 0-8 in conference play.

Hannah Pridemore put the Lady Hawks on the board scoring back-to-back goals over a minute's span. Before Crystal Marshall netted two of her own to make it a 4-0 game with 18:53 to play in the first. Shorter extended its lead to 7-0 over the next five minutes, and tacked on three more before the 11:50 mark in the opening half to hold a 10-0 advantage and implement a running clock. Only to added two more in the final six minutes from Alex Abbey and Tiffany Kongpachith to take a 12-0 lead into the break.

After the break, Shorter opened the half with three consecutive goals for the 15-0 score, before Lee finally broke into the scoring column with their first of two goals in the game as Hanah Rotello found the back of the net with 9:51 to play. Over the final nine minutes, the Lady Hawks added two goals – both from Shelby Beverly – while the Flames tacked on one, the first career goal for Abby Fortner on a free position attempt, for the 17-2 final score.

In total, Shorter outshot Lee 29-7 and held a 25-5 advantage in shots on goal. While, holding a 22-10 lead in ground balls and winning 16 of 20 draws.

Pridemore and Marshall each finished with four goals on the night; with Marshall becoming the Lady Hawks' all-time leading scorer as she netted her 119th career goal. Beverly and Allie Perry each added two goals; while Perry (2) and Morgan Perrone (2) and Morgan LeBlanc (3) finished with multi-assist games.

Abbey and Puckett each posted four draw controls on the night, while Pridemore and Beverly added three each.

Pridemore led the defense with five caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Catherine Mitchner and Peyton Reid split time in goal for Shorter with Mitchner making one save on four shots faced. Whereas Reid recorded two saves on three shots.

The Lady Hawks will close out the regular season Saturday afternoon when they travel to Young Harris for a 2:00pm start.
