Lady Hawks fall to No. 16 UIndy, Mobile

Montevallo, Ala. -- The Lady Hawks moved to 4-4 on the season Sunday, falling in both games on the final day of the Falcon Frenzy Tournament hosted by the University of Montevallo.

For the weekend, Shorter's only win came on Saturday over Ursuline 11-1. While on Sunday, the Lady Hawks fell to No. 16 University of Indianapolis 8-3 in a rematch of the quarterfinals from the 2015 DII WSWC; before falling to the University of Mobile 3-1 in the nightcap.

UIndy took a 4-0 lead in the game with a four run second inning. Only to have the Lady Hawks cut the lead in half on a 2-run homer from Peyton Barthel – her first of the season – plating Savannah Thomas; who reached base one batter before on a walk.

The Greyhounds added a run in the fifth to make it a 5-2 game, but the Lady Hawks answered once again. This time as Dani Lukas delivered her first home run of the year - pinch hitting for Hailey Baswell. UIndy went on to add three final runs to take the game 8-3.

Payton Lippert took the loss to move to 1-2 on the year; allowing seven earned runs on 12 hits with four walks and two strikeouts through a complete game performance.

Barthel and Kameron Carter each tallied two hits in the game.

Shorter scored first against Mobile, taking a 1-0 lead in the second inning as Carter came in on an error by the first baseman. But that was the all the offense the Lady Hawks would get for the remainder of the game; while the Rams added three runs to earn the win, 3-1.

Hannah Draper took the loss for Shorter, also moving to 1-2 on the year; allowing two earned runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Carter added two more hits in the game to finish the 4-6 from the plate. Tiffany Holland also finished with two hits against Mobile.

The Lady Hawks will look to bounce back as they open the home portion of their season on Tuesday, February 14, when they welcome No. 8 North Georgia for the first meeting of the teams since the semi-finals of the 2015 WCWS.
