ROME -- The Lady Hawks fought back from an early three goal deficit to top Lincoln Memorial 12-6, and move to 2-0 on the season.
Amara Moss got things started for the Railsplitters, tallying the game's first goal with 26:42 on the clock, only to have
Hannah Pridemore net her first goal of the day on a pass from
Shelby Beverly seconds later to tie things up.
LMU then answered moments later to regain the lead, but again the Lady Hawks countered with a score of their own this time as Beverly netted a pass from
Allie Perry. The Railsplitters then rallied for three consecutive scores from Jasmine Click to take a 5-2 lead with just under eleven minutes to play in the half.
That's when the Lady Hawks kicked into gear, ending the first half with back-to-back goals from Beverly to go into the break, down 5-4. But, it was after the intermission that the Lady Hawks put the game away, as they scored eight unanswered goals to take a 12-5 lead.
The first two came on back-to-back scores from
Crystal Marshall, followed by a free position goal from Perry, and a score from
Morgan LeBlanc. Pridemore then scored her second of the game with 8:46 to play while the Lady Hawks were a man up after a yellow card on LMU. Two minutes later,
Morgan Perrone got into the scoring column, before LeBlanc also added a goal. Pridemore then closed out the scoring for Shorter with her third of the afternoon with just over three minutes to play.
The Railsplitters added a final goal during the final three minutes for the 12-6 score.
In total the Lady Hawks outshot LMU 23-18, while holding a narrow 17-15 advantage in the shots on goal. And a 24-20 advantage in ground balls; while winning 13 or 19 draws.
Beverly led the effort for Shorter, contributing to seven points on the game – four goals, three assists, while LeBlanc had a hand in four – one goal, three assists – and Pridemore tallied three goals.
Pridemore also added a team high seven ground balls to go along with six caused turnovers and three draw controls.
Catherine Mitchner made nine saves in goal for Shorter.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Wednesday, February 15, when they welcome Alabama Huntsville to Ben Brady Field for the first Gulf South Conference game of the year.
