West Florida took the lead early in the game as Rachel Wright hit a solo homerun to centerfield and made it 2-0 in third when Megan Toney scored on an error by
Kendall Johnson.
The Hawks, however, answered with a run in the fourth on
Kameron Carter's third homerun of the weekend and 15th of the season to cut the lead in half. Before tying the game in the fifth on an RBI single from Johnson to bring in
Taylor Martin – pinch running for
Taylor Ann Oda, who reached on a double to left field.
The Argos rallied in the seventh for four runs on four hits, with the major blow coming as Wright tallied her second homerun of the game, a 3-run shot to left field. But, again, the Hawks didn't back down; rallying for two runs of their own. Oda walked to lead things off, and moved to second on a single from
Dani Lukas – pinch hitting for
Carson Carriker – before coming in, along with Carriker, on a 2 RBI double from
Tiffany Holland.
Payton Lippert took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts through five innings of work in relief of
Hannah Draper; who allowed two runs on four hits with a walk in two innings.
Oda reached base in each of her at bats, tallying a walk and two hits in the game. While five additional Hawks added a hit and Holland finished with two RBI.
Carter earned all tournament honors, after going 3-13 at the plate during the weekend - all homeruns - with a walk and 7 RBI.
