ROME -- The Lady Hawks topped Lees-McRae 11-4 Saturday afternoon in front of the home crowd at Ben Brady Field.
The win improves Shorter to 4-10 overall; while the Bobcats slip to 4-8 on the season.
Anna Kate Dulaney put the Lady Hawks on the board with 24:32 to play in the first half on pass from
Ashley Nuqui, before
Crystal Marshall made it a 2-0 game when she scored a couple of minutes later. Peyton LeCompte cut Shorter's lead in half, scoring Lees-McRae's first goal of the afternoon with 14:38 to go. But the Lady Hawks were there with the counter, Marshall with her second goal of the game with 10:26 remaining to maintain the advantage for Shorter.
Allie Perry followed with a goal second later to make it a 4-1 game, before Taylor Drake added a final goal for the Bobcats to take a 4-2 score into the break.
LeCompte put Lees-McRae within one with a score in the opening seconds of the second half, but the Lady Hawks answered with a 7-1 run to close out the game – scoring six straight goals. During the run,
Kari Chambers scored twice; while Nuqui, Perry, Dulaney, and
Tiffany Kongpachith scored on each. LeCompte score the Bobcats final goal with 5:58 remaining. And, Nuqui tallied Shorter's final goal with 2:58 to go for the 11-4 victory.
In total the Lady Hawks outshot Lees-McRae 34-20, and held a 23-12 advantage in shots on goal. While also leading in ground balls 24-14 and in draw controls 9-8.
Chambers led the way for Shorter with two goals, to go along with five caused turn overs and six ground balls. While
Alex Abbey added four caused turnovers, five ground balls, and three draw controls.
Catherine Mitchner finished with eight saves in goal for the Lady Hawks.
Shorter will return to action Wednesday afternoon, April 13, when the University of Montevallo visits Ben Brady Field for a 5:00pm start. Â Â
