Rollins holds Hawks scoreless in doubleheader

Winter Park, Fla. -- Rollins swept the Wednesday evening doubleheader with the Hawks; taking the opener 3-0 and winning the finale 5-0.

Shorter slips to 12-8 on the season; while the Tars improve to 16-4-1 overall.

Rollins took the lead 1-0 in the first inning and made it 3-0 in the third on a two run homer from Tiffany Osmanski.

Shorter had runners in scoring position in each of the first, second, third, and sixth innings but couldn't score, stranding them each inning. Of the Hawks four hits in the game, two came off the bat of Tiffany Holland; while Niki Cook and Taylor Ann Oda each added one.

Payton Lippert took the loss in the opener; allowing three runs on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

Game two was much like game one as the Tars took the lead in the first inning with a run, and added to it in the fourth as Brittany Johnson delivered a three run homer to bring Rollins' advantage to 4-0; before adding a final run in the sixth for the 5-0 final score.

Again, Shorter had base runners in five of the seven innings, but like in game one the Hawks bats were cold with runners in scoring position and in each inning the runners were stranded. Shorter was held to five hits for the game, two from Cook, and one apiece from Taylor Martin, Oda, and Savannah Thomas.

Hannah Draper took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits with two walks through four innings of work. Kalei Kimbrell pitched the last two innings, allowing a run on three hits with two strikeouts.

The Hawks will look to get back on track as they make their first trip back to Steele's Diamond at Blazer Park since winning both the Gulf South Conference and NCAA DII South I Regional there last spring in a three game series with No. 17 Valdosta State University Friday at Saturday.
