ROME --Â The Lady Hawks closed out home portion of the season Tuesday evening, falling to Tennessee Wesleyan 16-14.
The first half was back and forth as the teams traded goals with Shorter (4-6) finding the slight advantage as
Mia Wiggins netted the go ahead as time expired to give the Lady Hawks a 9-8 halftime lead.
The Bulldogs took advantage of the break, and came out firing; tallying five consecutive goals to make it a 13-9 game.
Erin Wynn broke the drought for Shorter; tallying her fourth goal of the game with 16:41 to play in the game. Tennessee Weslayan answered with back to back scored to extend their lead to five, but the Lady Hawks rallied to erase the deficit and pull within one on a goal from
Kari Chambers and three from Wynn; who finished with a career high, 7 goals on the night. In the final two minutes, the teams traded possession; with both looking to secure the win. The Bulldogs posted a final goal with twenty-five seconds to play for the 16-14 final score.
It was balanced game across the board, with Shorter narrowly edging Tennessee Wesleyan in shots 30-29, while both teams placed 23 on goal. The Lady Hawks held the advantage in ground balls 34-28, while the Bulldogs one 16 draws to Shorter's 15.
Nicole Kube played the complete game in goal for the Lady Hawks; making 7 saves through sixty minutes.
Wiggins finished the night with four goals; Chambers added two and
Bethany Fevella recorded one on a free position shot. Of Wynn's seven goals, three came on free position attempts.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action Saturday and Sunday, April 11 and 12, as they travel to Florida to take on Florida Southern and Saint Leo. Game times are set for 1:00pm on Saturday and 7:00pm Sunday.
