Florence, Ala. --Â The Lady Hawks came from behind Saturday evening to top No. 14 North Alabama 5-4 to take the first game of the three game series.
Shorter improves to 30-13 on the season and 19-11 in the Gulf South Conference; while the Lions move to 31-9 overall and 16-8 in conference play.
Kendall Johnson put the Lady Hawks on the board in the first inning with a solo homerun, only to have North Alabama score twice in the bottom of the inning to take the led 2-1; before adding two in the second to make it a 4-1 game.
In the fifth, however, Shorter rallied to tie the game 4-4 as Kameron delivered a solo homerun to left field and
Maggie Meacham turned in an RBI double to plate
Niki Cook and
Carson Carriker.
Ericka Bynum then delivered the game winner in the sixth, a solo homerun to center field.
Kalei Kimbrell earned the win, coming on in the third inning in relief of
Maddie Bray. In five innings of work, Kimbrell turned in a no-hit performance with three strikeouts. The lone baserunner she allowed came on a sixth inning walk to Harlie Barkley.
Meacham finished the day 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBI; while Cook, Johnson, Bynum, Carter, and Carriker each added one hit apiece.
Shorter will wrap up the regular season with a doubleheader against the Lions. Games are set to begin at 2:00pm eastern.
