WLAX falls in season finale

Young Harris, Ga. -- The Lady Hawks closed out the 2015 season on the road Saturday evening, falling to Young Harris 14-5.

Shorter finishes the year with a 4-9 record, while the Mountain Lions improve to 11-5.

Young Harris got things going, scoring six consecutive goals to open the game; the Lady Hawks finally broke through with 6:12 to go in the half as Alex Abbey found the back of the net to make it a 6-1 game. The Mountain Lions went on to close out the frame with three goals to take a 9-1 lead into halftime.

Shorter stepped up in the second half, scoring four times – three in the last five minutes. But, the lead was already too great as Young Harris held on for the win. Mia Wiggins scored her first goal of the half to open scoring and make it a 9-2 game. And after four goals from the Mountain Lions, Ashely Nuqui netted a goal bring the score to 13-3. Young Harris added a final goal with 3:29 to play, before Wiggins and Erin Wynn went back to back for the 14-5 final score.

In total, Young Harris outshot Shorter 30-17 and held a 21-11 advantage in shots on goal. Shorter tallied 30 ground balls on the day with Wiggins leading the way with six; Kari Chambers chipped in with five and both, Clarissa Rutherford and Sarah Curlee added four.

Catherine Mitchner played most of the game in goal for Shorter; tallying seven saves through 54:37 minutes.
