ROME -- The Lady Hawks made the most of their final game at Alto Park this season, turning in an 8-2 victory over Gulf South Conference foe, West Florida.
Paige Rowland put Shorter (27-10, 17-9 GSC) on the board with an RBI double to left center to bring in
Niki Cook and
Maggie Meacham; who'd led off the inning with a walk and single, respectively. The Lady Hawks added to their lead in the third inning with four runs to make it a 6-0 game as
Kendall Johnson plated Cook on a sacrifice Fly to center field. Then with two outs
Ericka Bynum brought in
Kameron Carter and Rowland on a double, and came in to score on error by the second baseman one batter later.
The Argos (15-28, 7-19 GSC) broke the shutout in the fourth with an RBI single. Shorter answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to keep the momentum going. The first on a single from Meacham to plate
Janell Echols, and the second as Meacham scored on an error by the first baseman. Kaylen Rowell homered in the fifth for West Florida for the 8-2 final score.
Maddie Bray earned the win for the Lady Hawks; allowing two runs on six hits through five innings of work.
Meacham finished the day with two hits, two runs, and one RBI. While, Rowland tallied three RBI on one hit and a run scored.
Shorter will be back in action Wednesday, April 15, as they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Emory University. The games are set for 3:00pm and 5:00pm.
