ROME -- The Lady Hawks completed the three game sweep of West Georgia with a 5-4 win Monday afternoon.
Shorter improves to 19-6 on the season and 9-5 in conference play; while the Wolves fall to 12-15 overall and 5-10 in the GSC.
Amanda Voyles put West Georgia ahead in the first inning with an RBI single. The Lady Hawks tied the game in the second as
Kameron Carter connected on a solo homerun to left center. In the third, Randi Phillips homered for West Georgia to make it a 3-1 game, and in the fourth she earned a bases loaded walk to extend the lead to 4-1.
Shorter used a three run fifth inning to tie the game; with two outs and the bases loaded Carter was hit by a pitch, then
Paige Rowland walked, before
Kori Benson was also hit with a pitch to make it a 4-4 game. The Lady Hawks earned the win in the seventh as
Kendall Johnson scored on a sacrifice fly from
Paige Rowland.
Carter finished the day with two hits and two RBI, while Rowland also recorded two RBI and two walks.
Kalei Kimbrell earned the win for Shorter after coming on in relief of
Amanda Blanchard. Kimbrell allowed no runs on one hit with two strikeouts. Blanchard allowed four runs on six hits with one walk and six strikeouts through 4.1 innings of work.
The Lady Hawks will be back in action next weekend as they travel to longtime rival Lee University for a three game Gulf South Conference series. Games are set to begin at 1:00pm each day with the doubleheader Saturday.
