Lady Hawks top Reinhardt, 15-5

ROME -- The Lady Hawks topped Reinhardt 15-5 Saturday evening at Ben Brady Field.

The win evens Shorter to 3-3 on the season; while the Eagles also move to 3-3 overall.

Shelby Beverly put the Lady Hawks on the board in the first ten seconds of the game to give Shorter the lead 1-0. Reinhardt's Mary Minick tied things up at the 21:57 mark, but that would be the only goal the Eagles would score in the frame as Shorter scored 8 unanswered goals to take a 9-1 lead into the break.

During the span, Mia Wiggins and Crystal Marshall each tallied three goals, while Beverly and Ashley Nuqui added one each.

Nuqui added to Shorter's lead with the first goal of the second half with 28:25 on the clock to make it a 10-1 game. The teams traded goals over the next ten minutes; Stephanie Grove and Minick scored for Reinhardt while Nuqui added her third goal of the game to bring the Lady Hawks lead to 11-3. Marshall, Wiggins, and Devin Spero scored consecutive goals for Shorter to extend the lead to 14-3. Minick then closed out the scoring for Reinhardt with back to back goals before Marshall netted the last goal of the game with thirty-eight second to play for the 15-5 final score.

Marshall led the attack for the Lady Hawks with five goals in the game, Wiggins chipped in with four, Nuqui 3, Beverly 2, and Spero 1.

Nicole Kube played the complete game in goal for Shorter making five saves through sixty minutes of work.

In total the Lady Hawks outshot the Eagles 28-16, and held the advantage 22-10. Shorter held the slim advantage in ground balls 11-10 and in draw controls 11-10.

Shorter will be back in action Wednesday, March 18, as Shepherd University visits Ben Brady Field for a 7:00pm start.
