Clearwater, Fla. -- The Lady Hawks completed the sweep of the competition with a 1-0 win over host school, Eckerd College, Sunday morning on the final day of the Eckerd Invitational.
It was a defensive battle for both teams, as both had opportunities to score but couldn't push the run across. Shorter, however, did just that in the sixth inning to earn the win 1-0.
Kameron Carter led off the frame with a fly out,
Paige Rowland then reached base on a single, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Janell Echols.
Tori Etheridge then delivered the go ahead, an RBI double to left center to plate Rowland and give the Lady Hawks the lead and ultimately the win.
Amanda Blanchard recorded the win for Shorter, her second of the season, after coming on in relief of starter
Hannah Draper. In route to the win, Blanchard, pitched three innings, allowing no runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Draper, in her first start of the year, pitched four innings, allowing just two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
The Lady Hawks will now turn their attention to the Gulf South Conference and No. 2-ranked Valdosta State; who will visit the Alto Park Softball Complex for a three game series this weekend, February 14-15. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00pm, Sunday's finale is also set for 1:00pm.
