KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Walter Hill of Shorter (Ga.) has been named the NAIA National Division I Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday.

Hill was selected based on his performances from Jan. 23 – Jan. 29 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings. The national honor is the first of Hill's career and comes on the heels of his Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week selection on Monday.

Hill, a 6-foot-5 junior forward, averaged 19.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and three assists in a 3-0 week for the Hawks that included an 80-77 road victory against then-No. 17 Lee (Tenn.) on Jan. 28.

His week was highlighted by two 21-point performances, including a team-leading fourth double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds in Shorter’s 88-44 victory against NCAA Division III Berry College (Ga.). Hill finished the week 23-of-47 (48.9 percent) from the field.

The native of Gainesville, Ga., ranks 15th in the NAIA in total scoring (398) and 17th in total 3-point field goals (55). He ranks third in the SSAC in scoring at 18.1 points a game.

Hill and the Hawks return to action on Thursday night when they travel to Atlanta for a non-conference matchup with Point University at 7 pm.
